For those parents that have a Senior for the first time, the Banner Project was started in 2015, starting with 82 banners, and is the brainchild of Karen Lester. The project has grown each year and last year we sold 150 banners! In 2019, we partnered with Project Graduation to offer the banner and a yard sign as a bundle package.
The fabric comes in rolls of 100 yards and is cut and sewn into banners measuring 3′ x 4.5′. Once we receive the decorated banners back, a team of volunteers arrives at the high school in the wee hours of the morning and the banners are assembled over poles that line the driveway at the high school on graduation day. Sara Girard moved here to Tolland from South Carolina in 2018 and attended her first Booster Club meeting in September of that year. She immediately jumped in with both feet and took over the Banner Project! Sara, and her mother Kathleen, have sewn over 350 banners to date! Sara has grown her team of volunteers and found other sewers to help so this year we will hopefully be giving her mom a break!
Enjoy the pictures below of banners from previous year, as well as the video from last year’s Class of 2020! The last picture shows what the yard signs look like but this year will say CLASS OF 2021!! And if you have any questions, please ask on the Tolland High School and Booster Club Facebook Page. We will begin selling the banners and yard signs shortly and every senior family that orders a bundle by the order deadline date, will get one. We will also have a FAQ section shortly.
